Last week, the California Medical Board failed a critical test on whether it can prove to the Legislature that it has refocused its priorities on patient protection above physician interests.

A Medical Board task force (it's called Patient Notification, when it really should be Physician Probation Notification) will be discussing possible protocols for notifying patients about doctors on probation.

When and how should you find out if your doctor was put on probation by the California Medical Board? Sloppy medical records, inappropriate behavior with female patients and overprescribing with deadly consequences are a few of the reasons your doctor might be on probation. The Board says that its website's licensing portal is adequate, but patient-safety advocates say that a doctor should tell their patients if they are on probation.

 Saying the public has a right to know, Consumer Watchdog called upon Senators Mike McGuire and Jim Beall to subpoena Department of Health Care Services data on prescribing patterns of psychotropic medication by doctors to foster youth. Senator McGuire and Senator Beall are holding a joint legislative hearing today on the misuse of psychotropic medication in the foster care system.

Consumer Watchdog Calls on Senator Richard Pan to Tackle Drunk Emergency Room Physicians

Consumer Watchdog today called upon California State Senator Richard Pan to introduce legislation addressing the ongoing problem of drug- and alcohol-abusing physicians in California emergency rooms. Pan has announced legislation that would regulate how hospitals treat intoxicated patients.
