Two Aliso Canyon leak-related bills, one to be heard in the Assembly Natural Resources and the other in Assembly Judiciary, have surfaced. The first would increase the time for anyone adversely affected by the blowout to file a lawsuit and the other asks for a natural gas injection and storage study.

Waiting for Governor Jerry Brown to Sign Bills Protecting Californians

The crowded hallways outside of the Legislature's chambers may now be empty but that doesn't mean the fervent lobbying to kill pending legislation is over. 

With more than 600 bills sitting at the governor's desk, we are keeping an eye on bills that protect privacy, healthcare, elections, consumer rights and the environment. Below are some of the bills we are watching:

Wheelchairs and Oxygen Not Essential, Says Sen. Ed Hernandez

What could be more of a basic medical need than a wheelchair or oxygen? If you're having a tough time paying for the cheapest Covered California health plan, even with subsidies, you better hope you don't need those essential health benefits in the near future because you'll have to pay for it out of your own pocket if proposed legislation is approved.

Insurance Commissioner Next for Sen. Ed Hernandez?

San Gabriel Valley Democrat Ed Hernandez might have opened a committee to raise money for a lieutenant governor campaign in 2018, but it's more likely that the state senator runs for Insurance Commissioner. By mid-April, ten candidates had opened committees to run for lieutenant governor in 2018, five Republicans and five Democrats.
